FAQs

How fast can I go?

In line with current EU law, electric bicycles must stop assisting at 25kph (15.5 mph). After this, if you’d like to go faster you can but you’re on your own!

There are kits that can be bought online which derestrict your e-bike, allowing speeds over 25 kph, but be warned that this would only be legal on private land, and the use of these devices may void your manufacturer’s warranty. We do not supply or fit these devices.

How far can I go?

Range varies depending on the capacity of your battery and the level of assistance you choose. For example, on a flat road and with a low level of assistance selected some of our e-bikes are capable of covering 160 miles on a single charge.

Range is also affected by variables such as rider weight, road conditions, terrain, and wind direction. If you’d like to discuss a particular route to work or Alpine mountain pass please don’t hesitate to call or email us for advice.

How long does it take to recharge the battery?

Between 2 and 5 hours (depending on battery size and model) from flat to fully charged.

All batteries fitted to our e-bikes are lithium ion and have no ‘memory effect’ so don’t need to be flat before you recharge – you can top-up any time you like without fear of damaging or reducing the long-term life of the battery.

What’s the lifespan of the battery?

With heavy use (for example a long daily commute) the battery should last around 4 years, up to around 6 or 7 years with lighter use. Keeping your battery charged when not in use will prolong its life.

Do I need a licence to ride an e-bike?

No, all our e-bikes (unless specified as a Speed Pedelec) are by EU law classified the same a standard bicycle and can be ridden on roads without a licence or a helmet.

Can I try before buying?

Yes.

You are very welcome to visit our London, Leiston or Leicester showrooms and test ride any of our e-bikes. If there is a particular e-bike you would like to try, we recommend you call us first so we can make sure we have it, or similar ready for when you arrive.

If you are not yet sure which bike will be the best for you, just give us a ring or send an email. Our team will guide you through the options we think will best suit your needs and offer test rides accordingly.

Why don’t you sell cheaper e-bikes?

Here at justebikes.co.uk we are proud to provide a selection of only the highest quality e-bikes on the market. We only stock premium European brands with Bosch, Brose and Shimano motors because these are the products we know will prove most reliable.

We decided early on that we would not stock cheaper e-bikes that are built to a price-point rather than to a design standard. All the brands we stock have high build quality and offer good after sales service so we can be sure that replacement parts are available quickly.

If you’d like to spend less ask about our used e-bikes, we often have second hand, ex-rental and ex-demo e-bikes, all ‘built-to-a-quality-standard’ by Europe’s finest manufacturers. We believe that a quality second hand bike will often offer better value for money than a cheaper model.

Do your e-bikes come with a warranty?

Yes, all of our bikes come with a minimum 2 year manufacturer’s warranty. Please call us or email for more details on the specific e-bike you are enquiring about.

How often should my e-bike be serviced?

We recommend servicing once a year or every 3000 km, whichever occurs sooner.

Our manufacturers regularly release software updates for their e-bikes – it is not essential to upgrade your e-bike software but it will improve performance and efficiency.  The latest software version is installed as a matter of course when we service your e-bike.

Our e-bikes are built to last if well maintained, so do check things like tyre condition and pressures, chain lubrication, brake adjustment and control cables regularly. If you don’t live close to one of our stores but have a trusted local bike mechanic, they can service the non-electric aspects of your bike and we are happy to advise them over the phone.

How much setting up of my e-bike is required after delivery?

Any bike collected from our stores will be ready to ride, and we can adjust contact points to fit you before you leave the store.

If your e-bike is boxed and shipped by courier minimal assembly work is required before you can ride it – how much depends on make and model – for a folding bike no assembly is needed, for a large wheeled electric mountain bike you will have to fit the pedals and straighten the handlebars.
